From spring 2019, Val Thorens’ current sports centre will begin its transformation into a 4-season sports and cultural centre. The project’s iconic architecture and the multiple uses it will enable are a perfect reflection of Val Thorens’ identity. The roof, shaped almost to resemble a snowboard, will offer a generous multi-purpose space for modern activities.
The sports centre will be open throughout the season for all kinds of events: concerts, Christmas village, ice rink, open-air cinema... This flexibility works in tandem with the interior area between the aqua zone and the multi-purpose hall, which will also offer a wide range of possible activities. The building boasts generously sized areas. The central hall’s 360° window allows for especially spectacular views over the surrounding landscapes. This style of window will let the majority of the building’s projects enjoy significantly more natural light.Situated in the heart of Val Thorens, the project also aims to make it easier to get to and from the Place des Arolles and the bus station, the existing shopping centre, Rue Caron and Place Caron, as well as the new public area created alongside the ski runs.
Whilst the timeframe for the building work of the Val Thorens sports centre extension is slightly restricted due to weather conditions and being operative during the Winter season, the timetable is scheduled as below:
March 2021 – Asbestos removal/cleaning
April/May 2021 – Deconstruction
May to November 2021 – Earthworks and structural work
December 2021 – November 2022 – Finishing work
End of November 2022 – Delivery of the new sports center
The construction budget is 24 million euros before taxe.
